5 Tips to help your kids with online learning

As the pandemic continues around the world, many schools have had to adapt and revert to online learning. While this is not an ideal situation, it is the only way children can continue to learn. Many families struggle with helping their children with online schooling. Kiddikraft shares some tips for successful learning at home.

Dedicate a Learning Space

Create a quiet space that promotes learning at home. This could be in a bedroom, the living room or an extra room. Wherever you choose, make sure it is quiet with good lighting. Look for some fun stationary to help spruce up the environment and choose an area that is away from the hustle and bustle of home life where your child can concentrate.

Get Good Quality Headphones

A good pair of headphones makes a world of difference not only for your child but for the teacher as well. Noise cancelling headphones would be the best choice but if that is not an option, a normal pair that plugs into the computer will do just as well. Make sure to check them regularly.

Make the Most of Breaktime

While most schools schedule recess and lunch time throughout the school day, it is important for kids to use their time wisely. Perhaps have them walk around, do some stretches, read a book or simply close their eyes for a few minutes. This can break up the monotony of being on the screen all day.

Organisation Boxes

If you have two or more children at home doing online learning, it can get a little chaotic especially with all their books and materials. Keep a small box dedicated for each child. Have them decorate their boxes to make them uniquely theirs and place all items inside. Let’s face it, no one wants to be running around on Monday morning looking for their homework.

Positive Reinforcements

Children usually get positive reinforcements from their teachers at school so why not show them in your own way that you are proud of them. A simple “I’m so proud of you today for concentrating so well”, goes a long way.

Online learning is not only tough on the kids, it can also be tough on parents. By making small changes around the house and being organised, online schooling can be very rewarding.

Lakshmi Harilela
I was cooking since I was 12 years old, alongside my late Father, Mohan Harilela. My family ran restaurants, so I was always sneaking into the kitchens and eating everything I could get my hands on. Since a very young age, I have always had a passion for food, as I was constantly surrounded by it. So I decided to go to Hotel Management School Les Roches in Switzerland for some formal education.
