Why learning phonics is so important

Learning phonics is important for several reasons. Firstly, phonics helps children develop strong reading and spelling skills. It teaches them how letter combinations represent sounds, helping them decode words and read fluently. Without phonics skills, reading can become challenging and frustrating.

There are various different programs or courses that teach phonics, RWI being world-renowned and taught at KLC (Kiddikraft Learning Centre) by teachers who specialize in this method of English language phonics.

Phonics provides a foundation for understanding the structure and patterns of language. By learning phonics, children gain an understanding of how sounds and letters work together, allowing them to recognize and analyze words more effectively. This knowledge helps them become better readers and writers.

Furthermore, phonics improves vocabulary and comprehension. When children can decode words accurately, they can better understand the meaning of those words and the overall message of a text. This is our goal at KLC (Kiddikraft Learning Center), for every child that joins our RWI program we start with an assessment to place them in the appropriate level before training, this is imperative to getting a strong foundation, starting at the right level.

Phonics also enhances their ability to recognize and understand new words, expanding their vocabulary. This is why at KLC (Kiddikraft Learning Centre) we use RWI as a prerequisite for our writing classes, it gives children a big boost in being able to write fluently.

Lastly, learning phonics promotes independent learning. Once children grasp the phonetic principles, they can apply them to new words they encounter, even ones they have never seen before. This empowers them to read and learn independently, building confidence and a love for reading.

Learning phonics is important because it enhances reading and spelling skills, improves language structure understanding, boosts vocabulary and comprehension, and fosters independent learning. If you are looking to help your child become better readers and writers, come for an assessment at KLC!
